Fire department officers worried over posting a large number of newly recruited women

In latest news from Dehradun, the officers of the Uttarakhand fire service department are now worried over the number of women personnel recruited far surpassing the number of male personnel recruited.  It is learnt from the department sources that out of 445 posts, there are 320 women personnel while the number of male personnel stands at a mere 125. Notably, this is the first time that the women are recruited in the department and 30 per cent of the posts have been reserved for women. This aside, some women got recruited in the department through the general category.

The department officers are concerned over another count. The nature of duty in this department may prove challenging for the women personnel as this involves not just fire- fighting work but rushing to an accident site. Sometimes, the work warrants 24-hour duty.

The officers are now thinking where to post this large number of women personnel. The DGP Uttarakhand Ashok Kumar said that new recruitment policy is being framed for the department.
