FCI offers auctions to control spiralling food grain prices

The Food Corporation of India (FCI), Uttarakhand offered 11000 MT of wheat with a base price of Rs 2125/Quintal for Under Relaxed Specifications (URS) and Rs 2150/Quintal for Fair and Average Quality (FAQ) from 11 locations for sale under 25th auction and 5000 MT of Rice with a base price of 2900/Quintal from two locations for sale under 21st auction of food grains that started from December 8 under OMSS (D) scheme.

The FCI release stated that the main objective of the auction is to ensure that the rising prices of food grains are controlled immediately and added that traders could also participate in E-Auction of rice for a maximum quantity of 1000 MT per bidder. To prevent the excess holding of grain stocks, parties having wheat stocks over and above the monthly processing capacity on the basis of weekly wheat stock declaration on the WSMS portal on the date of publication of NIT are not allowed to participate in the e-auction, the release further stated.
