Two men returning from a funeral died after a private bus hit their scooty on Friday in Ramnagar area of Nainital district. The accident took place near Ranikhet roadways bus station in the afternoon after the driver reportedly lost control of the bus, said the in-charge of Ramnagar police station Anees Ahmad.  He told The Pioneer that two men named Vikram Singh Negi (42) and Girish Chandra Pandey (40) were returning on a scooty from the funeral of a neighbour when a bus hit their two-wheeler. He said, “The bus was empty at the time of the accident and the driver reportedly escaped from the accident site.  Both men were severely injured and were taken to the hospital by locals. They were declared brought dead by the doctors.

The police reached the accident site soon after getting the information and started the investigation. The bodies have been sent for post mortem. We will hand them over to the respective families after the completion of the required procedure.” The accident was quite severe as the scooty along with the two victims reportedly went under the bus after being hit. The accident also caused a traffic jam in the area which was later resolved by the police.

The police had also arrested the absconding driver by the evening, said Ahmad. He said that the driver has claimed that he lost control of the bus as he was unable to apply brakes. “People present at the accident site at the time also said during questioning that the driver appeared to lose control of the bus. The police have seized the bus and these claims will be verified after the technical analysis of the bus by experts and action will be taken accordingly,” said the inspector.
