Mountains lashed by rain, plains continue to swelter

Various places in the mountainous regions of the State witnessed light to moderate rain while the plains witnessed another day of comparatively high temperatures on Sunday. The weather is likely to remain similar on Monday. The State meteorological centre has forecast that very light to light rain is likely to occur at isolated places in Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh districts today. Dry weather is likely to prevail in the remaining districts of the State.

The provisional State capital Dehradun is forecast to witness a mainly clear to partly cloudy sky. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be about 37 degrees Celsius and 22 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun today.

Meanwhile, various places in the mountainous districts witnessed light to moderate rain on Sunday. In the evening, the Rudraparyag district police also took to social media to warn the people travelling to Kedarnath. The police informed that most places in the district were experiencing light to moderate rain with windy conditions. Considering this, the travelers were advised to avoid unnecessary travel at night and to seek accommodation for the night near their current location. Rain and hail were also reported in some other mountainous regions during the day and evening. According to the meteorological centre, there was 23.5 millimetres rainin Didihat, 15.5 millimetres in Ukhimath, 14.5 millimetres in Agastyamuni, 11 millimetres in Nainbagh and trace rain in Mussoorie. The maximum and minimum temperatures in various places on Sunday were 36 degrees Celsius and 21.8 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 36.3 degrees Celsius and 21.5 degrees Celsius in Pantnagar, 22.6 degrees Celsius and 11.5 degrees Celsius in Mukteshwar and 24.9 degrees Celsius and 11.5 degrees Celsius in New Tehri.
