Considering the potential rise in traffic ahead of Deepawali on main roads and marketplaces, the Dehradun police are preparing a comprehensive plan to minimise traffic problems. The police are planning to reduce the parking charges in certain areas to ensure vehicle owners opt for valid parking during festive season.

Traffic congestion is already a prominent issue of the city and wrong parking habits of people make this situation worse, especially during rush hours. Since the chances of illegal roadside parking of vehicles and invalid parking increase during the festival season due to the increase in footfall in marketplaces, the police are making a comprehensive plan to minimise traffic.

The Dehradun senior superintendent of police (SSP) Daleep Singh Kunwar said on Monday that the traffic police have been inspecting many marketplaces, malls, complexes and other locations to observe the parking condition and have managed to arrange temporary parking in most of these places. He said, “These temporary parking spaces in such places will ensure that no vehicles are parked in any no-parking zone causing unnecessary traffic issues. We are also working on reducing the parking charges in many areas to encourage people to go for valid parking. The police are currently working on an elaborate plan to make sure traffic problems do not bother anybody during the festive season. We will share the whole plan with everyone within two days.”
