Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that after being sworn in, the BJP government in Uttarakhand will form a committee comprising legal experts, members of intelligentsia and other stakeholders to prepare a draft of uniform civil code for Uttarakhand. Dhami said that marriage, divorce, property and inheritance will be under the purview of this uniform civil code which will apply equally to all citizens irrespective of the religion they follow. He said that this uniform civil code will be a major step towards achieving the dream of the architects of the constitution and will be an effective step towards article 44 of the Indian constitution, he said.
