Senior leader of BJP in Uttarakhand, Ravinder Jugran has said that the drive undertaken by the Pushkar Singh Dhami government to demolish illegal mazars in the State is in accordance with the order of the Supreme Court. He said that in the year 2009, the SC had said in one of its decisions that the illegal construction of religious places should be demolished which are built on government land or public places or affecting traffic. “Later the SC had said that if any religious place has to be repaired, permission will have to be taken from the district administration and it authorised the High Courts to monitor it in the States,’’ he said.
Jugran said that apart from being in accordance with the decision of SC the demolition drive undertaken by Uttarakhand government is completely justified and is the need of the hour. He said that there are many reasons behind the illegal unauthorised construction of thousands of tombs in Devbhoomi Uttarakhand and from the strategic point of view and that of national security the demolition drive in the border state of Uttarakhand is the need of the hour.
