Regarding the recent demolition of encroachments by shops in Dehradun, the members of Doon Valley Mahanagar Udyog Vyapar Mandal (DVMUVM) said that the local shopkeepers are not allowed to repair the remaining structures of the shops as the exterior of the shops must be constructed as per the approved design of Dehradun Smart City Limited (DSCL) for the market. In the recent anti-encroachment drive, more than 400 illegal structures were removed in Paltan Bazaar area by the teams of the district administration and the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD). In view of this, the president of DVMUVM, Pankaj Masson said that the authorities had demolished the structures but the shopkeepers are not allowed to repair or construct the remaining structure as the shops must appear as per the plan for the market approved for the Smart City project. “The administration has to show the High Court the report related to the removed encroachments in the city by October 28 and we have been told not to do any construction on the remaining damaged structures till then.

We have been informed that after October 28, they will give us the blueprint approved by DSCL according to which we would have to repair/construct the remaining damaged structures,” informed Masson. He further added, “The administration told us initially that they have to demolish the structures as per the orders of the High Court but now we are getting to know that we must do repairs as per the plan of DSCL. We are confused whether the administration demolished the structures on the High Court’s orders or due to smart city work. If the structures were removed as per the directions of the court, why should we repair or do any construction as per DSCL plan?” The members informed that they will talk with the administration by the end of the next week regarding this matter.
