The Uttarakhand State Commission for Women (USCW) has asked the deputy inspector general of police P Renuka to take strict action in the alleged case of molestation of 14-year-old girl by a priest. The chairperson of USCW issued this direction after taking cognisance of a matter that occurred on Monday in Dehradun in which a priest in a temple allegedly bit the cheek of a girl and committed indecency with her. Apart from this, Kandwal has directed the DIG to take strict action in the recent case of the alleged suicide of a girl in Dehradun.

Kandwal informed that she had a telephonic conversation with the DIG in which she told her to investigate the molestation case and take strict action against the accused as soon as possible. She further stated that she had also given instructions to the DIG to take prompt and strict action in the Dalanwala area in the case of a victim who committed suicide after allegedly being fed up with dowry harassment and domestic violence. The DIG informed that a case has been registered against the priest who molested the minor under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. Apart from this, the accused of the in-laws of the woman who committed suicide in the Dalanwala area have also been arrested, she added.
