DIG submits probe report in HC in contempt petition

The Uttarakhand High Court will hear the contempt petition filed by an accused who has alleged that the Udham Singh Nagar police apprehended him and beat him up despite a stay by the court on his arrest. The report of the probe conducted by the Kumaon deputy inspector general on the orders of the court was submitted in the High Court on Wednesday following which the senior superintendent of police and others had been directed to submit their side in the court on the same day. The court will hear the matter on November 3.

It is pertinent to mention here that Gagandeep had filed a contempt petition in the Uttarakhand High Court. The petitioner has contended that he is an accused in an incident which occurred on September 11 though the process is underway between the two parties to settle the matter. The High Court had ordered a stay on his arrest but he was arrested by the special operation group after exiting the court. The petitioner has further stated in the petition that despite being aware of the stay order on his arrest, the police kept him in the Kichha police station till 10 PM and also beat him up. The court had directed the Kumaon DIG to conduct a probe in this matter. The investigation report was submitted in the court on Wednesday. According to sources, some of the points stated in the report may go against some police officials.
