DGP suspends Ramnagar SI for allegedly assaulting local businessman

The Director General of Police (DGP) Ashok Kumar suspended sub-inspector (SI) Neeraj Chauhan posted at Ramnagar police station on Friday on a complaint regarding him allegedly assaulting a local businessman of Ramnagar. The officials informed that the DGP received a complaint through WhatsApp as per which, SI Neeraj Chauhan had allegedly assaulted a businessman of Ramnagar.

The DGP suspended Chauhan with immediate effect on Friday after the allegations against him were found to be correct in the primary investigation. Kumar has also directed the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Nainital, Pankaj Bhatt to conduct an impartial inquiry into the incident to take further action in the case.

Terming the incident as highly objectionable and unacceptable, Kumar said that the police department will not tolerate any indisciplined behaviour or any act of any police personnel that tarnishes the image of the police among the public. He said that the police headquarters issues regular guidelines on such matters and occurrence of such incidents in the State despite that is deplorable. The department will take appropriate action against the guilty personnel in such matters, added the DGP
