Dengue menace: Health secretary inspects Base hospital in Kotdwar

Amid the continuing increase in cases of dengue, the Health secretary R Rajesh Kumar conducted an inspection of the base hospital in Kotdwar, Pauri district on Thursday. The secretary inspected the emergency ward, MRI, X -ray and dengue isolation ward of the hospital during his visit. He also inquired about the health of the admitted patients and sought information from the doctors about the treatment given by them. The officer found many lacunae in the functioning of the hospital and directed the chief medical officer (CMO) of Pauri, Dr Pravin Kumar to improve the facilities. Kumar pulled up the senior physician deployed in the hospital when he could not give a satisfactory reply to his questions. He also visited the maternity ward of the hospital and directed authorities to ensure that the beneficiaries of government schemes get the benefits.   In the inspection of the pathology lab of the hospital the secretary noticed that the technicians are giving hand written reports on which he directed them to give computer generated reports. He also objected to the destruction of tested blood samples and said that a sample is viable for 24 hours and can be rechecked if the report is found suspicious. He also directed the CMO of Pauri to inspect the private labs where the samples for dengue are being tested. After inspecting the hospital the officer visited the area where the medical college Kotdwar is proposed to be set up. He directed the CMO to measure the land and construct a boundary wall.
