Other States should learn sensitivity for women empowerment from U’khand: President

Says that the actual representatives of culture should be promoted and protected

The President Droupadi Murmu has said that Uttarakhand has a rich culture, heritage and is endowed by nature and all these traits should be preserved along with the development of the State. She was addressing a public reception organised in her honour at the residence of the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Thursday. Giving examples of goddess Parvati, Rani Karnavati, Bachendri Pal, Basanti Bisht and hockey star Vandana Kataria, the President averred that other States should take inspiration from Uttarakhand and its people for having this sensitivity towards their daughters. She said that Uttarakhand has a rich culture and it should be protected. She further stated that the actual harbingers of the culture should be protected and promoted. The President also expressed concern that many times such people get promoted or get a chance to showcase the culture in foreign countries, who have imitated or learned it from those who are protecting the culture for centuries. “We should promote the actual representatives, they deserve the encouragement and adulation,’’ she said.

The President said that under the guidance of governor lieutenant general (retd) Gurmit Singh and leadership of chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, Uttarakhand is moving on the path of all round development. She expressed hope that the State would be number one in the country when India celebrates its 100 years of independence in the year 2047. Murmu said that the hardworking people of the State have played a key role in the development journey of the State. Terming the State as a land of spiritualism and eternal peace, she said many centres of modern and Ayurvedic medicines are opening in the State and it has vast potential in the field of medical tourism. In his address the governor lieutenant general (retd) Singh said that 70 per cent of the land area of Uttarakhand is covered by forests and it provides oxygen to the country. He said the State is moving fast on the path of development and the women provide the biggest impetus to this journey. The governor said that the dream of the people of the State for a railway line in the mountains is getting realised with the Rishikesh- Karnprayag railway project. The Char Dham all weather project is also towards its completion and under the UDAN scheme the air connectivity in the State is increasing.

Welcoming the President, the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that being son of a soldier he had never imagined in his dreams also that one day he would get a chance to welcome the supreme commander of the armed forces of the country at his residence.  Terming the President as an example of women empowerment, the CM said that Murmu believes and follows the saying of simple living, high thinking.

 The President also inaugurated and unveiled the foundation stones for nine development projects worth Rs 2,001.94 crore related to power, health and transportation on the occasion. She inaugurated three projects worth Rs 538.35 crore and unveiled the foundation stones for six projects worth Rs 1,473.59 crore.  

She inaugurated SS Jeena government Ayurvedic and research institute (medical college) in Almora, 132 KV modern power house and connecting line built by PTCUL in Haridwar and 4.5 MW Kaliganga-II small hydro power project in Rudraprayag district. The projects for which the President unveiled the foundation stones include renovation of Chilla power house 144 MW project, integrated office complex-green building under Smart City project in Dehradun, 220 KV substation in Manglaur, undergrounding of overhead HT and LT power lines in Dehradun, second stage construction at government polytechnic in Narendranagar and modern ISBT in Tanakpur.

It will be recalled that the President is on a two day visit to the State. On Friday she will address the trainees at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy for Administration (LBSNAA) in Mussoorie and then attend the third convocation of the Doon University.
