State Foundation Day

The governor of Uttarakhand Lieutenant General (retd) Gurmit Singh reviewed a  parade organised at the police lines here on the occasion of State Foundation Day. The chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami was also present on the occasion.

The governor congratulated the people of the state for the foundation day and praised the contingent of Uttarakhand police for a disciplined parade. Speaking on the occasion, he said that the responsibilities of police force have increased with time and nowadays the role of police has become more constructive apart from controlling crime and managing law and order. Calling for better coordination between the police and public, the governor said that the need for effective policing has increased in present times. He added that the capacity building and continuous evolution in training is the need of the times. He opined that the use of technology, artificial intelligence, information and communication technology can become a blessing for the police.The governor praised the role played by the police during the pandemic of Covid-19 and said that the Jawans exceeded the call of duty to serve humanity during the pandemic.

The governor stressed creating a roadmap for development of the state which is based in the folk culture, traditions, beliefs of love for the environment and local ethos.

He said that the women are the backbone of the social and economic setup in the mountainous areas and they are getting empowered with the self help groups.

He said that some youngsters have set up examples of reverse migration in mountainous areas and they have opened new avenues in the fields of mushroom cultivation, poultry, fruit and vegetable cultivation. The governor said that many youngsters have understood the meaning of ‘think globally and act locally’ and are acting accordingly.
