Congress shirking answerability, exploiting Joshimath issue for politics: BJP

Accusing the Congress of turning the land subsidence in Joshimath as an opportunity for disaster tourism, the Bharatiya Janata Party has stated that it would be better if the Congress had acknowledged its answerability before levelling allegations. The BJP State president Mahendra Bhatt said that the top priority at present is to shift to provide a secure place to people of the affected area. Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has assured the affected people that they will be provided compensation on market rates and that buildings will not be demolished apart from two hotels which pose a risk to the public and are being dismantled. The government is providing interim relief of Rs 1.5 lakh per affected family while those going to rented accommodations will be paid Rs 4,000 per month for six months.

Bhatt said that the survey of affected homes is being undertaken and that the government is committed to providing all possible assistance to the affected persons. He alleged that the Congress is treating Joshimath as a tourist location and is not bothered about the problems being faced by the people. “The Congress is making a show of struggling in the interests of the affected people but its main intention is politics. Viewing Joshimath as a political opportunity, Congress leaders are talking illogically in their enthusiasm. In the past the Congress remained apathetic towards the earlier study report on Joshimath and when the time came to answer for its lapses it has resorted to playing politics on other issues. Loud voices do not make lies the truth,” said the BJP State president.
