After the recent order of the Food and Civil Supplies minister Rekha Arya, the district food safety department of Udham Singh Nagar has acted against four dummy plants and mills which were allegedly set up only to purchase paddy at minimal prices.  The administration on Sunday suspended permits of four such establishments which are Dhanalaxmi Seeds, Mahabir Rice Mill, ASM Industries in Bajpur and Punjab Rice Mill in Jaspur.

The department has also cancelled the targets given to them to collect paddy. This action was taken after Arya raided several mills on Friday and found irregularities in five mills and plants. She noticed that these establishments lack various machines like sortex machines, dryer plants and blending machines that are mandatory to be set up as per the rules. She had also found a few closed plants many of which appeared to be non-functional for a long time but were shown functional in documents.

Stating that some people establish dummy plants just to buy paddy and other crops at minimal prices set by the government to earn profits, she immediately directed the department concerned to take strict action against the said plants within three days. Arya directed them to cancel the target for the mills to collect paddy which are not following the rules and give it to those following rules.

Praising this development on Sunday, she said that the government takes ration and food related matters seriously and will not tolerate any kind of negligence in the matter at any level. She also directed officials concerned to act against all such plants across the State if they receive complaints against them. She said that senior officials of the department must stay vigilant and take action against guilty parties including officials and take strict action against them as per the rules.
