Covid-19; 42 new cases one death in U’khand on Sunday

Amid the scare generated by the arrival of hordes of tourists from different parts of the country at various tourist destinations of Uttarakhand and the concern raised by the experts that it could cause a spike in Covid-19 cases, the situation of pandemic of Covid-19 in the state appears under control. However the experts warn that the situation could deteriorate if the Covid safety protocols are not followed.

The state health department reported only 42 new cases of the disease on Sunday which is the lowest number in more than three months. The department also reported the death of one patient and recovery of 112 patients from the disease.

The cumulative count of Covid-19 patients in the state has now increased to 3,41,179 while a total of 3,26,763 patients have so far recovered from the disease. In the state 7339 people have so far lost their lives to Covid -19. The recovery percentage from the disease is now at 95.77 and the sample positivity rate is at 5.87 per cent in the state. The authorities collected 20,733 samples in different parts of the state on Sunday.

The department reported nine new patients from Uttarkashi, seven each from Udham Singh Nagar and Nainital, five each from Dehradun and Haridwar, four from Rudraprayag, two each from Bageshwar and Tehri and one from Champawat on Sunday. No new cases of the disease were found in Almora, Pauri and Pithoragarh districts on the day.

 The state now has 1,094 active patients of the disease. Dehradun district is at top of the table in the list of active cases with 393 cases while Nainital is in the second position with 119 active cases. Pithoragarh has 106, Chamoli 91, Haridwar 55, Udham Singh Nagar 52, Rudraprayag 51, Bageshwar 50, Pauri 43, Uttarkashi 38, Tehri 35, Champawat 33 and Almora 28 active cases of the disease.   

One patient succumbed to Covid-19 at Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) on Sunday.

The state reported only one new case of Mucormycosis (Black fungus) and no death from the disease on Sunday. A total of 523 patients of the disease have so far been reported in the state out of which 104 have died.

In the ongoing vaccination drive, the health department vaccinated 18,394 people in 227 sessions held on Sunday.  A total of 9,92,834 people have been fully vaccinated so far in the state while 39,10,521  have received the first dose of the vaccine in the state.
