Covid-19 : 259 new cases reported in the State on Sunday

The Covid-19 graph continued its steep climb on the second day of the new year with 259 new cases being reported in the state on Sunday. On the same day, 110 patients recovered from the infection. While the recovery percentage is 95.90, the sample positivity on Sunday was 1.91 per cent. There are now 506 active cases of Covid-19 in the state.

According to the Health department, out of the new cases reported on Sunday, 91 were from Nainital district, 77 from Dehradun, 34 from Udham Singh Nagar, 28 from Pauri, 15 from Haridwar, one from Almora, eight from Pithoragarh and five from Tehri district. At present, Dehradun district has the highest number of active cases at 202 followed by Nainital which has 131 cases. Among the other districts, there are 52 active cases in Haridwar, 48 in Udham Singh Nagar, 38 in Pauri, 19 in Pithoragarh, three each in Almora and Champawat, four in Bageshwar and two in Uttarkashi. Meanwhile, 18,492 persons were vaccinated in 495 sessions held on Sunday. So far, 77,86,293 beneficiaries have been partially vaccinated and 64,14,558 have been fully vaccinated. In the 18-44 years age group, 47,48,822 have been partially vaccinated while 37,14,028 have been fully vaccinated.

Earlier, on Saturday 118 new cases were reported along with 34 recoveries and one death. Experts have expressed concern at the steep rise in daily case numbers in recent days. With the general public still crowding and appearing casual towards necessary precautions against the infection, experts have stressed on the need for the public to strictly adhere to Covid appropriate behaviour. Anoop Nautiyal of Social Development for Communities (SDC) Foundation pointed out that there has been an alarming spike in Covid cases in the state during the past five days.
