The councillors will stage a protest in the premises of the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) on Monday against the alleged encroachment by land mafia across the city. The councillor of Salawala ward Bhupendra Kathaith said that several people belonging to the land mafia have encroached on several pieces of land under the corporation. He said, “This is the case when the MCD is mostly left with no suitable place to make playgrounds and parks for our children or anything for the public’s interest when councillors demand. We have appealed to all the public representatives, Mohalla committee members and those people who have witnessed such encroachments nearby to gather in the MCD premises on Monday at 11:30 to stage protest against the issue so that no more officials indulge in such encroachments and support the land mafias.” He said that the councillors raised their voice against the issue only after which, the senior officials took action against one of the culprits. “We need to make our voice louder against the issue to ensure no official indulges in facilitating such encroachments by the land mafia,” said the councillor.
