It is pertinent to mention here that the 10 year contract of state health department with the Fortis hospital for super speciality treatment in cardiac disease ended on March 8 this year. The health department had also directed the Fortis administration to hand over all the assets back to the department.

The state health department had entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Fortis Hospital in March 2011. Under the contract an entire floor of the Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya (Coronation) hospital was handed over to the hospital. The government had also provided other assets to the hospital. In the last ten years more than 30,000 patients were admitted in the hospital. About 100 cardiac surgeries and 150 non invasive (stent) operations are done in the hospital in a month. The hospital has a staff of more than 125 and it caters to the superspeciality treatment in cardiac care to many districts of Garhwal division.
