In latest Uttarakhand news, the Congress MLA from Haldwani Sumit Hridayesh said in a statement that with police having failed to check drug trafficking and Nainital district having become dangerously vulnerable to the drug menace, the Congress would launch a movement to make the district drug- free.  Pointing an accusing finger at the district police, the Congress leader said that their efforts on this matter are half-hearted. “They are capturing small fishes while the big ones are escaping the police net. True, police are launching awareness campaign against use of intoxicants from time to time, but they are yet to get to the bottom of the menace. The illegal drug trade is blooming in this district and trafficking is being done principally through Uttar Pradesh and Nepal. We wonder why police are not launching intense operation to stop this,” he said.

He said that the Congress during its anti-drug movement would take the family members of the drug victims to every police station.
