Wednesday, 27 July 2022 | PNS | Dehradun

In protest against the alleged harassment of Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi by the central agencies at the behest of the Union government, the leaders and workers of Uttarakhand Congress held a Satyagrah at Ambedkar Park, Clock Tower in Dehradun on Tuesday. The programme was part of the countrywide call of Satyagrah given by the Congress party. Large number of Congressmen led by Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara took part in the Satyagrah.

Addressing the party workers, Mahara said that the senior leaders of Congress party are deliberately being harassed by the central agencies due to the political rivalry. He said that the Congress workers would not tolerate the deliberate harassment of its leaders and would continue to protest by using Gandhian methods. Questioning the regular summons of Enforcement Directorate (ED) to the Congress president Sonia Gandhi, the PCC president said that the government should explain as to what action it has taken against leaders like former Chief Minister of Karnataka Yeddiyurappa and his son, former CM of Maharashtra Narayan Rane and  his son, BJP leader Somen Mitra, former CM of Chhattisgarh Raman Singh and his son, Mukul Roy, Suvendhu Adhikari and Reddy brothers of Karnataka who are either in BJP or have left it.

He said that the manner in  which the ED sent summons to Rahul Gandhi first and now to Congress president Sonia Gandhi show that the Narendra Modi government is trying to stifle the voice of opposition to hide its failures.

Former PCC president Pritam Singh said that the BJP government is using central agencies against the leaders of opposition as part of a political conspiracy. He said that today the unemployment, price rise and corruption are at their peaks and the farmers and youngsters are fighting for their rights but instead of combating the unemployment and corruption the union government is targeting opposition leaders.  Former minister Nav Prabhat, vice president organisation Mathura Dutt Joshi, Vice President Surya Kant Dhasmana, general secretary organisation Vijay Saraswat, former MLA Rajkumar, Rajiv Mehrishi, Navin Joshi, Garima Dasauni, Rajendra Shah and others were present on the occasion.
