Cong likely to announce candidates for Haridwar & Nainital seats today

 The Congress party is likely to declare its candidates for the Haridwar and Nainital- Udham Singh Nagar Lok Sabha seats on Tuesday or Wednesday. The central leadership of the party has convened a meeting of the Congress Working Committee (CWC) on Tuesday morning in Delhi. After this crucial meeting, the Central Election Committee (CEC), the apex body of the Congress party for selection of the candidates, will hold its meeting. The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara and leader of the opposition (LoP) in the State Assembly Yashpal Arya have been asked to remain present in these meetings. The former president of Congress Rahul Gandhi who is back in the national capital after his Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra is likely to remain present in these meetings.

It is worth mentioning here that the ruling BJP has already declared its candidates for all the five parliamentary constituencies in the State. The Congress on the other hand has declared candidates for three constituencies. The party has fielded former PCC president Ganesh Godiyal from Garhwal,  Pradeep Tamta from Almora-Pithoragarh and Jot Singh Gunsola from Tehri Lok Sabha seats. 

 In Haridwar former chief minister Harish Rawat, his son Virendra Rawat and PCC president Karan Mahara are said to be in the race for the party ticket. In Nainital-Udham Singh Nagar the party is likely to field a leader from among LoP in Assembly Yashpal Arya, Ranjit Rawat, deputy leader in the State Assembly Bhuwan Kapdi and Jaspur MLA Adesh Singh Chauhan.
