Taking strong objection to chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami wearing a stole bearing the symbol of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) while filing his nomination paper for the Champawat Assembly by -election, the opposition Congress party has submitted a complaint to the election commission. The party has demanded that the nomination of CM Dhami should be cancelled due to gross violation of Model Code of Conduct (MCC) by him.

On Wednesday a delegation of the Congress party met the chief electoral officer (CEO) of Uttarakhand Sowjanya and submitted a complaint of violation of MCC by CM Dhami in the Champawat by election.

The delegation said that the CM was wearing a stole having the party symbol (Lotus) of BJP when he was filing his nomination papers on May 9. The general secretary organisation of the Congress party (Uttarakhand) Vijay Saraswat said that the Congress delegation has demanded a disciplinary action as per the rules against the officers concerned. He said that Dhami was wearing the stole in the nomination room and no one including the security officer and the returning officer took cognizance of this. He said that the process of election, its sanctity and transparency has come under question by this act of CM. Saraswat alleged that the state administration has bowed down completely before the BJP government. He said that though the appointment of the nodal officer Champawat was cancelled by the EC after the complaint of Congress party but no action has been taken on those who were responsible for the appointment at the time when MCC was enforced in Champawat.

The Congress delegation included Saraswat, state spokesperson Garima Dasauni, Ajay Singh, Kapil Bhatia and national convenor of National Students Union of India (NSUI) Ajay Rawat.
