Complaint made to SP about traffic violations causing issues

Tuesday, 01 February 2022 | PNS | Dehradun

Stating that Vikrams and electric rickshaws are violating laws consistently and causing traffic jams in Dehradun, president of Dehradun Mahanagar City Bus Seva Mahasangh , VV Dandriyal has written to the superintendent of police (Traffic). He questioned how the authorities have allowed the Vikrams and e-rickshaws to operate illegally despite the directions of the Uttarakhand High Court and State Government. He said, “The HC had ordered the authorities to restrict Vikram operators from stopping randomly to pick or drop passengers like the stage carriage permit vehicle which is against the rules. The government had issued a notification stating that e-rickshaws cannot operate on main roads between 8 AM and 8 PM but they can be observed running on almost every route of the city.” He stated that the authorities are ignoring these violations. These blatant violations are also responsible for the traffic problem across the city, he added. Besides ensuring the operation of these vehicles as per the rules, the authorities should also remove the unauthorised Vikram stands on busy roads that restrict the flow of traffic, said Dandriyal. He said, “The SP has assured to look into the issues and consider the recommendations to minimise traffic problems.”
