MCD plans to increase mutation and garbage collection charges

Thursday, 18 August 2022 | PNS | Dehradun

The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) is planning to increase property mutation charges from the current minimum amount of Rs 150 to Rs 5,000. The corporation will present this proposal in the board meeting which is scheduled to be held on Friday. According to the mayor Sunil Uniyal ‘Gama’, Rs 150 is quite less an amount to carry out the mutation process and the corporation sometimes has to spend much more than the paid amount that causes heavy financial loss annually.

He said, “These charges are decades old and we need to update them as per the current times. Many corporations in other districts are already taking higher mutation charges than our proposed charges. Besides this, we are also working on making the mutation process completely online to save time and money for the citizens. Such development work needs money and the corporation has very limited resources to earn revenue.” He also informed that MCD will also propose to increase the service charges for door-to-door garbage collection as the prices have not been increased since 2010.

Though many have raised questions about this proposed giant leap in the charges, the mayor said that the corporation has made proposals considering all important factors but the final decision will be taken in the presence of all board members. “Nothing is finalized yet. Prices can be adjusted based on the discussion and the suggestions of the board members in the meeting. If the members disagree with the proposals, we will not go ahead with the plans,” added ‘Gama’.

He also stated that proposals under the District Planning Committee will be the main focus of the board meeting. He said that it would be the first time here when several projects carried out by the committee under various government programmes will be passed in the board meeting to be continued further. The officials from all the departments concerned will also be present at the meeting.
