Women should keep families connected to cultural ethos: Kandwal

The chairperson of Uttarakhand State Commission for Women (USCW), Kusum Kandwal affirmed that it is the bounden duty of every woman to ensure that their families stay connected with the cultural ethos and social values. “We must stay rooted in our own culture despite everything,” she said while addressing the women’s awareness programme organised in Dehradun on Wednesday. Many women, including teachers, officers and Anganwadi workers, were present at the programme.

Kandwal apprised all the attendees of the work being done by the commission regarding the rights of women. “We are focused on raising awareness among the women not just in the urban areas but also in the rural areas,” she said.

Applauding the State chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, she said that the deserving women are being given special positions thanks to the State’s government’s resolve for real women empowerment.  “It keeps rolling out schemes meant for women empowerment,” she added.    

While addressing the programme, the Raipur MLA Umesh Sharma Kau said that the women must fight for their rights. “They must be strong in themselves and take an unshakable stand on the matter of their rights,” he said.  He appreciated the work being done by USCW to empower women across the State.

In the course of the awareness programme, the attending women were made aware of their legal rights.   Besides, the officials from the women and child development department informed those present about the prominent welfare schemes related to the women.
