A number of tourists have reached Auli near Joshimath for the Christmas and New Year celebrations. The numbers increased after recent snowfall in the region. Meanwhile, the Chamoli police places reflector tapes, convex mirrors and sign boards at various sites on the Joshimath-Auli motor road to ensure road safety for the locals and visiting tourists. The Chamoli superintendent of police Rekha Yadav had directed these steps for better traffic management and road safety. The ground frost and snowfall fueled the possibility of traffic mishaps on this road.

Meanwhile, a number of tourists have already arrived in Auli. Though the snow which fell here recently has started to gradually melt, the tourists are also visiting the Gaurson Bugyal which is covered in snow these days. The tourists are indulging in various snow sports and recreational activities in these areas. Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam (GMVN) Auli manager Kishore Dimri said that the GMVN huts here have been full since December 22. A local involved in the tourism business, Vivek Panwar said that the tourists are enthusiastic about the Christmas and New Year celebrations. The tourism business may receive a further boost if there is snowfall in the coming days, he added.
