The Bharatiya Janata Party State election committee has sent the names of 55 contenders for candidacy from the five Lok Sabha seats to its central leadership. Informing the media at the party’s State office on Tuesday, the BJP State president Mahendra Bhatt said that in the meeting of the committee, chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, party’s State in-charge Dushyant Gauram, members of the committee, former State chief of the party and senior office bearers discussed the names of Lok Sabha election contenders in detail. The report of the party observers regarding the possible candidates for all the five seats was also presented in the meeting. The names sent to the party’s central leadership were finalised after discussing the opinion of local party workers, social balance and strategic aspects. Bhatt expressed hope that the central parliamentary board of the party will consider these names and announce the party candidates soon.

Earlier in the day, the first meeting of the BJP’s State election management committee concluded with a resolve to meet the party’s target of setting a new record of victory in the Lok Sabha election. The party leaders, heads and deputies of all 38 departments of the committee discussed the electoral strategy in detail. Gautam said, “First we contested the election to establish an identity then for reaching the second position after which we contested the election to win and now we are contesting the election to win the election consecutively while setting a record. This election is for laying for foundation of the developed India of 2047, for making India the world’s largest economy, for building a society free of caste and divisions and for making India a world leader in all spheres. Great works have been done during the 15 years of BJP governments under Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Narendra Modi as envisioned by freedom fighters. We have seen times when our people were busy criticising India and praising foreign nations but today people take pride in Indians across the world. Various historic decisions have been taken in the nine years under PM Modi,” he said.

Bhatt exhorted party workers to achieve the target of victory by more than five lakh votes in each of the five Lok Sabha constituencies. “We have to ensure that in the booths in mountainous regions, we receive minimum 10 per cent votes more than in the last election and in the booths in the plains we receive 370 votes more than in the last election. All of us must focus our efforts on ensuring the success of the beneficiary contact campaign along with programmes related to women and other fronts,” he said. Bhatt also informed that the BJP national president JP Nadda’s programme earlier scheduled to be held on Februrary 28 will now be held on March 2 in the State.
