CM Dhami flags off 60 mobile veterinary units

Veterinary doctors of Uttarakhand to receive Non Practicing Allowance (NPA)

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami flagged off 60 mobile veterinary units and inaugurated the Goat valley project in a programme organized by the animal husbandry department at Survey of India, Hathibarkala here on Wednesday. He also inaugurated the NABARD-funded Heifer rearing farm project in Pashulok campus in Rishikesh under the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF) on the occasion.

 In an important declaration, the CM announced that veterinary doctors would be paid Non-Practicing Allowance (NPA). Speaking on the occasion he said that the mobile units would help in providing emergency veterinary services in the remote and mountainous parts of the State. A toll-free number -1962 has been released for this purpose. He said that the foundation stone of a new laboratory has been laid in Shyampur in Rishikesh under the National Gokul Mission and the national digital livestock mission has started functioning in Champawat and Udham Singh Nagar districts. Terming animal husbandry and agriculture as the backbone of lakhs of families in the State, the CM said that the country has attained the apex position in the world in dairy products due to the small farmers and milk traders.

The CM said that a major database of dairy animals is being prepared for the first time in the country under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Under the project, a special tag is being attached to cattle. He said that the digital revolution has entered the dairy sector as well and the digital payment system for dairies is an example.

The CM said that the State has succeeded in controlling the Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD)  by effectively implementing the directives of the union government in this regard. He said that vaccination of about six lakh cattle has so far been done in the State. Terming livestock as the basis of organic farming, the CM said that the government is focusing on transporting cow dung to organic farms. He expressed hope that the animal husbandry and dairy sectors would strengthen the rural economy and prompt the reverse migration in the State.

 The union minister of state for animal husbandry and dairy development Sanjeev Baliyan, cabinet ministers Ganesh Joshi, Saurabh Bahuguna, Dehradun Mayor Sunil Uniyal Gama, chairman of the Gau Sewa Ayog, Rajendra Anthwal, Union secretary for animal husbandry Rajesh Kumar, secretary R Meenakshi Sundaram, BVRP Purushottam, and director animal husbandry Prem Kumar were present on the occasion.
