Dharampur MLA and former Dehradun mayor Vinod Chamoli has alleged major anomalies in the Dehradun Smart City project and stated that this issue will become the matter for inquiry in the future. Talking to media persons, Chamoli said that the original detailed project report was not implemented in the project. He said, “I have a very strong objection to the Smart City project works. The works in the original DPR passed by the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun, on the basis of which the Smart City project was approved for Dehradun were not implemented. The projects we had presented were not implemented and the whole scenario was changed. For example, the original Paltan Bazaar renovation project consisted of a very good road, central verge poles and a cycle track while the entry of large vehicles was to be banned.”

The senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader further said that he had also raised this issue in the Vidhan Sabha but was stopped from elaborating by the minister. “I stopped because the minister asked me to. However, this is a major issue. The original DPR should be compared to the present works in the Smart City project to check lapses and see where and what works have been done by the officials. The Smart City works should be audited and the officials who have deviated from the proposal in the project should face action- it should at least be marked in their confidential report so that such officials do not get such important responsibilities in the future. This is a big issue which should be raised. This will become the matter for an investigation in the future,” the MLA said.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Dehradun Smart City works have become a cause for major public inconvenience in the provisional State capital. Despite repeated instructions and deadlines issued by senior officials and ministers, various works under the project are yet to be completed.
