The regional transport authority (RTA) of Dehradun has extended the date to apply for the permit of CNG fuelled or electric hybrid vehicles for Vikram and auto rickshaw operators from January 31 to February 28. The RTA also extended the last date to buy a clean-fuelled vehicle till March 31. A meeting was conducted by RTA under the chairmanship of RTA head and Garhwal commissioner Sushil Kumar in the presence of RTA secretary and RTO (administration) Sunil Sharma. He informed that Vikrams and auto rickshaw operators who wish to continue the operation in Dehradun with BS VI vehicles, CNG fuelled or electric hybrid vehicles after the ban of their respective vehicles in March and December 2023, must apply in the regional transport office (RTO) for permits by February 28.

The last date to buy the clean fuelled vehicle is March 31 after which, the old permit will be considered automatically invalid. He said that the date was extended on the appeal of vehicle operators and public representatives. He said that so far, the RTO has received over 600 applications for permits whereas 794 permits are needed for the marked routes. He also said that interested operators can also install CNG kits in their vehicles. Sharma said that RTO will also start a survey next month to mark routes in Rishikesh and Haridwar to start the operation of clean-fuelled vehicles there too. He also informed that it will now be mandatory to keep dustbins in all kinds of public transport vehicles including buses, auto rickshaws, and Vikrams among others under the Swachchh Bharat Mission.

The RTA has also made the installation of Vehicle Location Tracking Device (VLTD) in all kinds of public transport vehicles mandatory. The RTO said that enforcement teams will start a checking campaign of all vehicles from next month to ensure these directions are being followed at ground level. He also stated that the RTO will also start working on the planned operation of e-rickshaws across the city due to a considerable increase in their numbers in recent years. He said that a joint team of RTO and police will work on marking places where the operation of e-rickshaws needs regulation and give them routes where the public need them the most.
