The move aims to provide benefit to the women self help groups
In an attempt to promote the women self help groups, the Cooperatives department has decided to provide the water of the holy Ganga ( Ganga Jal) in the earthen pots and the boxes made by mango wood. On the initiative of the cooperatives minister Dhan Singh Rawat, the Provincial Cooperative Union (PCU) which is engaged in the work of sending Ganga Jal to foreign destinations would purchase the earthen pots and wood boxes from the Women SHGs. On Monday the PCU presented Ganga Jal to the minister in the earthen pot and wooden box made by the Nature Women SHG in the auditorium of the registrar of cooperatives in Dehradun. Appreciating the Ganga Jal scheme of the PCU, Rawat said that it is a very good concept and it should be publicised on a large scale. He said that being the Devbhoomi, Uttarakhand is a big destination of religious and spiritual tourism and every year Crores of pilgrims visit the State. The minister said that under the vocal for local plan the Women SHGs and others should be encouraged so that women working on small scale are benefited.
The managing director of the PCU Man Singh Saini said that along with the Ganga Jal the PCU is also providing incense sticks (Dhoop) made by the flowers offered by the devotees in the temples of Haridwar. He said that the Ganga Jal in the earthen pots can remain in its original condition for six months as compared to the one in the plastic containers. The PCU is providing the Ganga Jal in different packaging at a cost of Rs 251, Rs 551 and Rs 1,100 per pack.
The cooperatives secretary BVRC Purushottam, registrar of cooperatives Alok Kumar Pandey, additional registrar Ira Upreti and others were present on the occasion.
