The chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has said that the suggestions of the general public would be incorporated in the budget. He was speaking at a programme organised on the occasion of inauguration of the Dr Nityanand Himalayan research and study centre in Doon University on Thursday. He also inaugurated a two day ‘professional advancement programme for Indian women researchers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics).

Speaking on the occasion, the CM said that dialogue with experts of every field was established by the government for preparing this year’s budget.

Paying rich tributes to Dr Nityanand, the CM said that he dedicated his entire life in the service of the society. He said that Dr Nityanand believed that the public grievances should be listened to and understood by reaching out to the public and then the policies should accordingly be formulated. Dhami said that the state government has taken many important decisions and setting up of a five member committee for preparing draft for Uniform Civil Code (UCC) is one of them. He said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi the country is heading towards becoming self reliant. The CM asserted that the country is witnessing a new work culture after 2014.  He said that the state government is committed to make Uttarakhand one of the leading states of the country before the year 2025.  Dhami said that orders have been given to the officers to ensure that the benefits of government schemes are extended to the people standing on the last ladder of society.

Speaking on the occasion, the Rajya Sabha MP, Naresh Bansal said that Dr Nityanand always wanted that research in different fields should be done in Uttarakhand and it is matter of great satisfaction that the national workshop on research is being organised on the occasion of inauguration of a centre dedicated to his memory. Bansal said that Nityanand always wanted that the societal service should be based on sensitivity.

Welcoming the guests the Vice Chancellor (VC) of the Doon University Surekha Dangwal said that Dr Nityanand is aptly remembered as ‘Himalayan Rishi’ for his works and sensitivity towards the Himalayas. She said that it is great pride that the Doon University has been chosen by the Department of Science and Technology (DST) for the two day workshop on capacity building of women scientists and researchers of Uttarakhand. She expressed concern about the fact that the numbers of women researchers in key areas represented by STEM are less in the country. Dangwal said that we belong to a country where the women scholars had said more than 4000 years ago that ‘Knowledge is my identity’.

The secretary Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB) of DST Sandeep Verma, former Rajya Sabha MP Tarun Vijay, patron of Uttarakhand Utthan Parishad Prem Budakoti and others were present on the occasion.
