Three medical facilities in hills receive first NQAS recognition

In appreciation of the improving performance by some State-run health facilities, the Central government has awarded three new medical facilities of Uttarakhand with the National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS) recognition. These have received Lakshya Award too. The three NQAS-recognised facilities are Nainital- based B D Pandey District Hospital, Champawat District Hospital and Haridwar Sub- District Hospital based in Roorkee.  

Expressing happiness over the development, the State health secretary and Mission Director National Health Mission (NHM), R Rajesh Kumar said that this rare recognition should be attributed to the hard work put up by the officers and the employees of the health department. “This is the first time that the medical facilities located in the hills have been bestowed with the prestigious NQAS recognition,” he said.

The State health secretary further said that six departments of B D Pandey Hospital, including blood bank, In Patient Department (IPD), general administration and laboratory facility, have received NQAS approval while the labour room and maternal operation theatre have received the Lakshya Award. Likewise, six departments of the District Hospital Champawat, including OPD, blood bank, maternity ward, pharmacy, and general administration, have been given performance-based recognition under NQAS while the labour room has received the Lakshya Award. Further, seven departments of the Sub-District Hospital Roorkee, including general administration, general OT, blood bank, maternity ward and laboratory, have been bestowed with NQAS approval while the labour room and maternity OT have received the Lakshya Award.

Rakesh Kumar further said that Rs 8.4 lakh will be given to the District Hospital Nainital while Rs 4.6 lakh and Rs 8.8 lakh will be given to the District Hospital Champawat and the Sub-District Hospital Roorkee respectively by way of incentive amounts.

He informed that till now Uttarakhand has received seven national level NQAS recognition and 16 national level Lakshya Awards. “Under the Quality Assurance Standards Programme, our State has been going all-out to provide quality facilities to all the patients and the pregnant women in particular in government-run medical units,” he averred.
