Remark may have been an attempt to divert focus from Pakistan’s problems: Dhami

The Bharatiya Janata Party staged protests across the State on Saturday against the derogatory remarks on Prime Minister Narendra Modi made by the Pakistani foreign minister Bilawal Bhutto. Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami also strongly condemned the Pakistani minister’s statement adding that Bhutto is a prime example of dynastic politics while PM Modi is among the most popular leaders in the world. He said that the statement which amounts to insulting the 135 Indians may have been made to divert the focus from the various problems being experienced in Pakistan.

During the protest by the BJP, the party’s State president Mahendra Bhatt said that Pakistan which is the refuge of terrorism has stopped getting donations from the global community and frustrated by this, its minister had made such a low level statement regarding PM Modi.

On Bhatt’s directions, scores of party workers gathered in various districts to protest against Bhutto’s statement. In Dehradun, the protest rally was held from the BJP Mahanagar office to the Clock Tower with an effigy of the Pakistani minister also being burnt during the demonstration. Raising slogans against Bhutto, the BJP office bearers and workers sought an apology from Pakistan. Bhatt said, “India has exposed the face of Pakistan in the global community for its role in terrorism. This is why many nations are not standing with Pakistan now and with aid from across the world being stopped, that country is on the verge of bankruptcy. Bhutto crossed the limit in frustration and should be expelled by his government. The people of India and BJP workers have been angered by this statement as seen in the rallies taken out by the BJP,” he said. Cabinet minister Prem Chand Agarwal, Dehradun mayor Sunil Uniyal ‘Gama’, Rajpur Road MLA Khajan Das, senior office bearers of the party Puneet Mittal, Devendra Bhasin and Neha Joshi among others were also present in the protest.
