CS reaches Haldwani, inspects affected area, instructs officials to maintain peace

Chief secretary Radha Raturi reached the violence affected areas of Haldwani on Friday to take stock of the situation after riots broke out in the Vanbhulpura area of the city. She also visited the Vanbhulpura police station which was also attacked by rioters who attempted to burn the building when police personnel were in it. She issued strict instructions to the district administration and police officers to maintain law and order by taking the safety and peace of the general public as the top priority.

Raturi also visited the Sushila Tiwari hospital and met the injured and inquired about their health. The chief secretary also held a high level meeting with the deputy inspector general of police (Kumaon), Nainital district magistrate, the senior superintendent of police and other senior officials to review the situation. Talking to media persons during her Haldwani visit, the chief secretary said that the situation is under control and normal. Strict action will be taken against the culprits, she said.  Apart from the affected area of Vanbhulpura, teams of the district administration and police have been deployed to ensure that such incidents do not happen in other areas. She praised the general public for maintaining peace in the area.  Stating that the chief minister is also constantly monitoring the situation, Raturi appealed to the public to avoid rumours and maintain peace. The officiating director general of police Abhinav Kumar, Nainital district magistrate Vandana, DIG Yogendra Rawat, SSP PN Meena and other officials were also present along with the chief secretary.
