Mela administration ready to handle Covid situation

Devotees are thronging Haridwar considering the second and third Shahi Snans of the Kumbh Mela to be held on April 12 and 14 respectively. The situation is more challenging for the authorities who are also focusing on safety from Covid-19.

The health department claims to have made all necessary arrangements to handle the situation. The Kumbh Mela health officer Dr Arjun Singh Sengar said that devotees are expected to arrive here for the Shahi Snans also from states where Covid has surged alarmingly. Considering this the mela health department is checking every person arriving here and if needed providing medical facilities to them. He assured that the department is taking all necessary measures to ensure a safe and grand Kumbh Mela.

The doctor further informed that a 550 bed Covid hospital had been set up at Dudhadhari Chowk. Apart from this a Covid centre is already active at the Mela hospital where patients can be kept in isolation if needed. Additional arrangements have also been made at various hospitals in Dehradun and Rishikesh for use if needed, he added.
