The members of the Dehradun Bar Association met the senior superintendent of police Daleep Singh Kunwar on Tuesday claiming that the police have been harassing the lawyers in the name of conducting the investigation of scams in the registrar’s office. They alleged that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed to investigate this case has been consistently targeting and harassing lawyers in the name of questioning since it arrested senior advocate Kamal Virmani for his alleged involvement in the scam about 10 days ago.

They claimed that the police are not taking action against government officials like additional district magistrate, sub divisional magistrate, Tehsildar and Nayab tehsildar who are actually capable of orchestrating the scam at such a big level because they hold all power to influence work in the registrar office. Still, the police are not even mentioning their names in the investigation. The president of the Dehradun Bar Association Anil Sharma said that the lawyers want the police to act against the real culprits who actually formulated the whole plan and executed it for years.

The lawyers were forced to hold a protest because they were being portrayed as the main culprits in the whole case while making it appear like the main culprits do not exist at all. He said that lawyers are feeling scared and targeted and want an unbiased investigation from the police. The association members have warned to take their protest on the roads if the police do not take the required action in the case. The senior superintendent of police Daleep Singh Kunwar assured the association members that the police are thoroughly investigating the matter and have gathered substantial evidence against some people. He said that no culprit will be spared in the case.
