Authorities start removing banners & blotting political messages

Authorities have started removing banners, hoardings and posters while also blotting political messages painted on walls by political parties in Dehradun district after the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) came into force on Saturday evening after the Election Commission of India announced the date for the assembly elections. The municipal commissioner Abhishek Ruhela informed that the teams of the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) had started removing the banners, posters and hoardings from Saturday evening till the late night and on Sunday from various public places and government buildings. The teams have removed a total of 24,570 of such publicity material and have painted over the walls displaying political messages across the city. Ruhela said that the remaining will be removed by Tuesday. The Dehradun district magistrate (DM) and district election officer R Rajesh Kumar has also directed the authorities concerned to ensure the removal of such banners, hoardings, wall paintings and posters installed and put up in government offices, building premises and public places in their respective areas of the district within 24 hours. He also directed to remove such hoardings installed on private properties without permission within 48 hours. He instructed the officials concerned to adhere to the rules of the election commission or strict action will be taken against the violators.
