Deepawali – 108 ambulance receives 475 emergency calls

Emergencies related to medical, fire and accidents increase appreciably during the festival of lights

The cases of accidents, burns and other emergencies kept the wheels of the 108 emergency ambulance service rolling in Deepawali night. The data released by the ambulance service suggests that 475 emergency calls were registered by it during Deepawali.

It is worth mentioning here that the emergencies related to medical, fire and accidents increase appreciably during the festival of lights and the service was all geared up meet emergencies on the day.

With 102 cases Dehradun district had maximum number of emergencies during the festival of lights. Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar had 67 cases each on the day.  The service responded to 59 emergency calls in Nainital district and 46 in Pauri. A total of six burn cases were reported by the service in Deepawali.

Apart from the fire related emergencies, the service also received 45 cases associated with road accidents. In Dehradun district alone 11 such cases were reported. The state head of the 108 emergency ambulance service, Anil Sharma said that it is a matter of great pride that on Diwali day when most of the people are with their families to celebrate festival of lights the personnel of the service remain on the duties to serve emergency cases.
