National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) Uttarakhand regional office chief general manager Vinod Kumar Bisht and managing director Suman Kumar met the governor lieutenant general (retd) Gurmit Singh at the Raj Bhawan on Wednesday. The two officials informed the governor about the activities of the bank during the meeting.
The governor said that an attempt should be made to make NABARD the basis of rural prosperity. He further suggested that farmers should be encouraged to adopt cluster based farming. Singh stressed on the need for laying special focus on water conservation works and betterment of natural water sources in various districts.He said that women self help groups in the State are making commendable products. NABARD should assist in the marketing, branding and supply aspects of such products.
Further, attempts should be made to maximise awareness in rural areas about the various schemes being executed by NABARD so that the people also benefit from the same. As many entrepreneurs as possible should be prepared through NABARD so that others are also inspired to do the same.
