The screening committee of the Uttarakhand Congress has finalised the candidates for 45 seats for the assembly elections. The party would soon release its list of candidates for these seats. The head of the campaign committee of the Uttarakhand Congress and former chief minister Harish Rawat said that the process of selection in more than 50 per cent seats is over. On the announcements made by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his Haldwani visit, Rawat said that the PM’s declarations are not based on ground realities and many of his announcements are about the projects which were approved during the Congress regime. He said that an unfortunate incident has happened in the Sitarganj where third degree was used on a school teacher for complaining about the quality of road to the MLA.  Rawat also expressed his  anguish at the incident in which a Dalit Bhojanmata (school cook) was removed from her job. He said that the Congress party would hold a fast near the statue of Mahatma Gandhi on the first day of the new year on the issues of exploitation of Dalits,  unemployment and the ever increasing prices.

The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Ganesh Godiyal said that the BJP used its full might to bring crowds to the rally of Prime Minister Narendra Modi but it could not match the crowd which came out spontaneously to hear Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. He said that on the last day of the year different employee unions are on the path of agitation.
