Assam woman found dead in Uttarakhand’s Pauri after being missing for five days

A young woman from Assam, who had been missing for five days, was found dead in Uttarakhand’s Pauri district on Monday. As per initial investigation, she died near Shivpuri while rafting and no foul play is suspected in her death so far, Inspector General (Law and Order) of Uttarakhand, Nilesh Anand Bharne said. 

The victim, Rasmita Hojai hailed from Sontila Hojai village in Assam’s Dima Hasao district. She had travelled to Delhi earlier this month to appear for the Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) examination. However, she reportedly lost contact with her family shortly after reaching Delhi on June 5. She was reportedly with two male friends, who later informed the Shivpuri police station about her disappearance.

The IG told The Pioneer, “According to the police’s initial investigation, the woman was swept away while rafting and drowned. We have not found any evidence of foul play during the investigation. Police are looking into the circumstances surrounding her death but so far, there is no indication that she was killed by someone.”
