When the plains are now experiencing scorching summer heat, heavy snowfall lashed the higher Himalayan reaches in Pithoragarh district on Wednesday. The weather took a quirky turn two days ago in places like Pithoragarh, Dharchula and Munsiyari, signalling snowfall.   Aside from the snowfall in the high-altitude hills, the foothills and the plains recorded rain that brought down the temperature by several notches to the relief of the suffering people.  The rain will also help in controlling forest fires.

Further, snowfall in the Himalayan villages of Vyas and Darma valley has resulted in significant dip in temperature to the glee of the tourists putting up there. Looking elated with the unexpected snowfall this time, a homestay operator from village Dantu, Hitesh Dataal said that snowfall has been continuing in 14 villages of Darma since noon. “The tourists visiting Panchachuli enjoyed the snowfall a great deal,” he added.  A Nabi resident Lakhan Nabiyal said that the cold has increased significantly due to snowfall in all the seven villages of Vyas Valley.

Snowfall occurred in the high peaks like Munsiyari, Panchachuli, Hansling, Rajrambha and Chiplakedar while rain occurred in the lower areas.
