State to introduce climate budgeting in 2022-23 to mainstream works related to climate change

Chief minister Tirath Singh Rawat announced that all ponds and water bodies situated in all villages and near villages, which are recorded in revenue records will be revived in the next one year. Climate budgeting will be started in the state to mainstream works related to climate change in the financial year 2022-23. Rawat said this after planting a Jamun sapling at his residence at GMS Road in Dehradun on the occasion of World Environment Day.

The CM appealed to the citizens to plant trees to contribute their bit for environmental conservation. Stating that protection of the environment is related to the life of the common man, he said that environmental conservation is a collective responsibility. Referring to this year’s World Environment Day theme of ecosystem restoration, he said that special focus will have to be laid on tree plantation and environmental protection to decrease rising pollution levels along with checking the rising pressure on the ecosystem.

Later, after reaching New Delhi, the chief minister planted a Rudraksh sapling at the Uttarakhand Sadan. He stressed on the need for all citizens to plant trees in order to conserve and nurture the environment.

Rawat also attended a virtual programme held to pay homage to recently deceased environmentalist Sunder Lal Bahuguna. Recalling Bahuguna’s works for environmental conservation, he said that the late environmentalist had also raised public awareness about environmental damage caused by indiscriminate use of concrete. He also recalled his interaction with Bahuguna during his own days in a student organisation. He exhorted all to imbibe Bahuguna’s thoughts regarding the conservation of the environment.
