All efforts underway to rescue stranded workers: Gadkari 

CM directs counselling for workers & relatives, all necessary assistance for family members

Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari and Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami inspected the ongoing rescue operation in the Silkyara tunnel in Uttarkashi on Sunday. After inspecting the tunnel and having detailed discussion with experts and officials involved in the rescue operation, Gadkari said that various technologies along with the advice of the best Indian and foreign experts are being utilised in the operation. The main priority of the government is to first safely rescue the 41 stranded workers, he said. Dhami said that along with the efforts of the Central government, the State government is also involved with a resolve in the operation. Interacting with the media at Silkyara, the CM said, “The State government is providing all possible assistance in this rescue operation. At the same time, we are laying special focus on maintaining the morale of the workers and their family members. An official is being appointed to maintain communication and coordination with family members of workers from other States and the officials from these States. The Uttarakhand government has also made arrangements for transportation and accommodation of the family members of the workers while also taking care of other aspects so that the family members coming here to learn about the condition of the workers do not face any hardship.”

Dhami along with the Union minister also interacted with family members of the stranded workers and assured them that the State government will provide all possible help to them. He reiterated that the topmost priority of the Central and State government is to safely rescue the stranded workers. The rescue operation is also being monitored from the Prime Minister’s Office, Dhami said. He further said that learning a lesson from the Silkyara tunnel incident, all tunnel projects in the State will be reviewed. The CM also directed the State officials to continue uninterrupted cooperation for the rescue operation being undertaken by Central agencies. Any resource or organisational requirements needed from the State government for the operation should be provided immediately. He further directed that counselling of the stranded workers and their family members should also be arranged to maintain their morale. Additionally, the officials should also maintain constant communication with them to learn about and fulfill their requirements, Dhami instructed. The CM further said that the State government will bear the travel expenses of the family members of stranded workers who want to reach Silkyara.
