Active dengue cases rise to 317 with 80 new cases on Tuesday

932 patients out of 1,262 cumulative cases have recovered so far in State

The number of active dengue cases in the State increased to 317 with 80 new cases reported on Tuesday.  According to information from the Health department, out of the 80 cases reported on Tuesday, 26 were from Haridwar district, 23 in Dehradun, 17 in Nainital, 10 in Pauri and two each in Almora and Chamoli districts. Dehradun districts is at the top among the districts with 705 cumulative cases reported so far. The department has so far reported deaths of 13 patients from the disease- all of them in Dehradun district.

The department collected 1,853 samples of the patients for the Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) test on the day. A total of 151 of the disease are undergoing treatment in different hospitals of Dehradun district. As per the officials, 406 patients have recovered from the disease in the district.

Dengue is a viral infection spread by the aedes mosquito.  The symptoms of the disease are persistent high fever, rashes, headache and pain in the joints. In the acute cases the platelets number decreases drastically which may prove fatal for the patient.  To prevent dengue one must not allow to accummulate in and near houses, regularly decant fridges, coolers, pots or cans, sprinkle kerosene or any other oil on the small water bodies to destroy the larvae of the aedes mosquito and inform the district authorities for fogging to kill mosquitoes. Since thye aedes mosquito strikes during the daytime and flies near ground level, one should wear full sleeved clothes at work places and seek medical advice without delay when someone develops fever.
