The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has alleged that chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has been distributing cash in Khatima constituency to lure voters. The party’s candidate from Khatima, SS Kaler said that the CM has been trying to lure voters by distributing cash and saris violating the norms of model code of conduct (MCC). He also alleged that Dhami had used police personnel and government officers during the campaign, violating MCC norms.

The party has also released a few videos claiming that Dhami was openly campaigning since 10 AM on Sunday against MCC rules and also misused his power in the administration to conduct the campaign.

He said that when he tried to stop Dhami from doing so and questioned him about it, he threatened to send him to jail. Kaler said that he, along with other party leaders, gave a memorandum to the Returning Officer (RO) of Khatima assembly constituency against Dhami demanding the cancellation of his candidature for the violations of MCC norms. Kaler said that Dhami was campaigning openly in the constituency since 10 AM on Sunday and its full video with the complaint letter has been given to the election commission.

He said that it was a misuse of power and a shameful act by the CM who flouted rules to remain in power. He said that BJP is ready to cross any limit to stay in power but the AAP demands the authorities to file an FIR against him under the Representation of the People Act, 1951 along with termination of his candidature.

Responding to the allegations, BJP state spokesman Ravinder Jugran said that such allegations are leveled by opposition parties at the last moment in desperation when they see imminent defeat. However, if this allegation has been made, the Election Commission will take cognisance and do the needful as is done in such instances, he said.
