AADI Gaurav Mahotsav 2023 commences, marking Janjatiya Gaurav Divas

The three-day tribal cultural festival christened ‘AADI Gaurav Mahotsav 2023’ commenced at Parade Ground to mark the Janjatiya Gaurav Divas that commemorates the birth anniversary of the tribal legend Birsa Munda on Wednesday. It was organised by the Tribal Research Institute (TRI) Uttarakhand. The mayor Dehradun Sunil Uniyal ‘Gama’ was present as special guest.   The inaugural day commenced with a display of tribal culture in the form of a padayatra  from Gandhi Park to Parade Ground by the participants  from several tribal institutions.

Several tribal cultural groups, comprising Jaunsari, Bhotia, Buxa, Tharu, and Raji, presented programmes that displayed the richness of the tribal culture of the State.  Besides, noted folk singer Kishan Mahipal presented a musical performance.

Speaking on the occasion, the mayor said that AADI Gaurav Mahotsav 2023 is a commendable initiative by TRI Uttarakhand. “It has provided a forum for various tribes hailing from the State to share their heritage and crafts with others,” he added.

The organisers informed that a three-day exhibition is being hosted as part of the festival that is open to the people daily from 1 pm to 10 pm, featuring a rich display of tribal culture and handicrafts. They further said that tribal cultural programmes are being organised in the evening.

Dwelling on the AADI Gaurav Mahotsav 2023, the director, TRI Uttarakhand, S S Tolia said that it provides a platform for tribal communities to share their traditions and heritage with the world, fostering understanding and appreciation. “This exhibition is not just a showcase of tribal art and craft but also a vibrant celebration of our rich cultural diversity,” he added.
